# C. elegans Lab at CVASU

At CVASU, we employ the free-living, non-parasitic, non-pathogenic nematode Caenorhabditis elegans to study basic worm genetics, for teaching, and in the discovery of biological activity of medicinal plants.

## What the lab works on

- **Worm genetics**: We study the basic genetics of Caenorhabditis elegans, a free-living nematode that is not parasitic and not pathogenic, so it can be kept safely on simple agar plates.
- **Teaching and training**: Since 2018 the lab has run demonstrations and lectures at CVASU, preparing the first batch of C. elegans researchers in Bangladesh.
- **Medicinal plant screening**: Since 2023 the team has been developing extraction protocols suited to high-throughput screening, to find beneficial biological activity in extracts from medicinal plants.
